Outlendar – National Geographic Calendar Design for Nat Geo Abu Dhabi
National Geographic wanted to create a calendar that would both raise awareness for and bring to life its new platform “Further”. Calendars typically sit on our desks and hang on our walls at home. They wanted this calendar to be a showpiece that media executives, who are bombarded every day with promotional material, could proudly display it on their desks and enjoy interacting with it.
Our approach
We designed this unique calendar, however, to get people out of the office and into the wild.
Therefore, it entices its users to ditch the routine and break out of their comfort zones. We identified 12 different objects that would be useful outside the four walls of offices. A stargazer. A Fresnel Lens, a water bottle, a card tool, a compass, a hologram pyramid, a camera obscura. a sundial. a waterproof pouch, a bird feeder. a carpenter’s pencil and a paracord. Each object would correspond to a month on the calendar. And every month, it would inspire us to get out and do something, discover, craft, be creative or just survive. The Nat Geo calendar itself doubled as a kit for the outdoors.
